Content

Basic Baseball information

T-Ball- Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 4-6year old.

Uniform- PLL provides team jersey. Player provides their own pants. Baseball pants, sweats, leggings, etc. required.

Objective- Teach the very basic fundamentals. How to wear a glove, uniform, be a part of a team, listen, follow directions. All players play at the same time. Several adults on the field, in addition to the coach. Ball is batted off a T. All players get a chance to bat and run bases.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice if at all. Can be included during game nights

Games- Typically plays 2 times per week

Season- Opening day until end of June.

All Stars- no post season play.

 

Minors 1 Baseball-

Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 6-7 year old.

Uniform- PLL provides team jersey. Player provides their own pants. Baseball pants, sweats, leggings, etc. required.

Objective- Continue to teach fundamentals of baseball. Coach and Assistants allowed on field. Coach machine pitches. Basic field positioning begins to be taught.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. Can be included during game nights. PLL encourages at least some non-game day practices.

Games- Typically plays 2 times per week

Season- Opening day until end of June.

All Stars- no post season play.

 

Minors 2 Baseball-

Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 8-10 year-old.  Younger players may be stepped down, following first couple of weeks if coach feels they are not ready for this division. 

Uniform- PLL provides team jersey. Player provides their own pants. Baseball pants, sweats, leggings, etc. required.

Objective- Continue to teach fundamentals of baseball. Coach and Assistants allowed on field. Player pitch begins in this division. Basic field positioning continues to be taught.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. Can be included during game nights. PLL encourages at least some non-game day practices.

Games- Typically plays 2 times per week

Season- Opening day until end of June.

All Stars-no post season play. 

 

Majors Baseball-

Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 9-12-year-old.  New players go through a required evaluation process. All players will be placed on a team. Teams are drafted to allocate player skills between the teams. 11-12 yo players, get placed on teams first. Younger players may be stepped down, following first couple of weeks if coach feels they are not ready for this division.  Use of Legacy player placement is used when possible (once a player has been drafted, they will return to this same team subsequent years. Exception- If you choose you can go back into the draft and try to be on a different team).

Uniform- PLL provides full uniform (sponsor jersey, pants, socks, hat).  Player can choose to purchase their own pants, but consult with your coach as to specific color.

Objective- Continue to teach fundamentals of baseball, but this begins competitive play. Coach and Assistants allowed on field only as base coaches during offensive play or during time out consultation. Players learn fundamentals of all positions but may begin work on specialized positions (base defense, pitching, catcher). Player pitched and pitch counts are enforced based on age. All players get their mandatory minimum innings played per division, but player rotation can be dependent on skill set.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. PLL encourages multiple practice sessions in addition to games, to work on teamwork and general skills.

Games- Multiple games per week. Potential Saturdays. Potential Colony Days tournament and end of season tournament. Potential games against Knik Little League, which could result in occasional travel to Eagle River.

Season- Evaluations in April. Coaches will begin to contact players following week and then will start practicing. Regular Season League play begins week of Opening Day until end of June.

All Stars- All Star Selection will be end of June-early July. All Star Games will be in July, games are in Anchorage and could be in other places in south central Alaska.

Intermediate Baseball-

Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 13 year-old.  New players go through a required evaluation process. All players will be placed on a team. Teams are drafted to allocate player skills between the teams.

Uniform- PLL provides full uniform (sponsor jersey, pants, socks, hat).  Player can choose to purchase their own pants but consult with your coach as to specific color.

Coach and Assistants allowed on field only as base coaches during offensive play or during time out consultation. Players learn fundamentals of all positions, but specialized positions (base defense, pitching, catcher) may be used. Player pitch, strict enforcement of pitch count is enforced based on age. All players get their mandatory minimum innings played per division, but player rotation can be dependent on skill set.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. PLL encourages multiple practice sessions in addition to games, to work on teamwork and general skills.

Games- Multiple games per week. Potential Saturdays. Travel is required for this division to Eagle River and Anchorage games, as well as Palmer.

Season- Evaluations in April. Coaches will begin to contact players following week and then will start practicing. Regular Season League play begins week of Opening Day until end of June. End of the season tournament.

Seniors Baseball-

Co-Ed, League age (check Little League International calculator) 13-16-year-old.  New players go through a required evaluation process. All players will be placed on a team. Teams are drafted to allocate player skills between the teams. 15-16 yo players, get placed on teams first. Use of Legacy player placement is used when possible (once a player has been drafted, they will return to this same team subsequent years. Exception- If you choose you can go back into the draft and try to be on a different team).

Uniform- PLL provides full uniform (sponsor jersey, pants, socks, hat).  Player can choose to purchase their own pants but consult with your coach as to specific color.

Objective- Continue to teach fundamentals of baseball, but this continues competitive play. Coach and Assistants allowed on field only as base coaches during offensive play or during time out consultation. Players learn fundamentals of all positions, but specialized positions (base defense, pitching, catcher) may be used. Player pitch, strict enforcement of pitch count is enforced based on age. Objective- Teach the very basic fundamentals. How to wear a glove, uniform, be a part of a team, listen, follow directions. Machine Pitch is utilized. When player pitch is started, ball is batted off a T following 4 balls. All players get a chance to bat and run bases.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice if at all. Can be included during game nights

Games- Typically plays 2 times per week

Season- Opening day until end of June.

All Stars- no post season play.

 

Minors 2 Softball-

Female, League age (check Little League International calculator) 8-10-year-old.  Younger players may be stepped down, following first couple of weeks if coach feels they are not ready for this division.  Older players can be stepped up dependent on skill.

Uniform- PLL provides team jersey. Player provides their own pants. Baseball pants, sweats, leggings, etc. required.

Objective- Continue to teach fundamentals of softball. Coach and Assistants allowed on field only for base coaching and player/team consultation. Player pitch begins in this division. Machine can be utilized when coaches agree. Basic field positioning continues to be taught.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. Can be included during game nights. PLL encourages at least some non-game day practices.

Games- Typically plays 2 times per week, Unless there are 48 players (4 teams) in this division, travel to Anchorage to play against other Dist. 1 teams will occur. May be multiple times per week. District 1 develops this schedule, dependent on how many teams. If there are 4 teams within a division for PLL, interleague play can occur and minimal travel to Anchorage.

Season- Opening day until end of June.

All Stars- All Star Selection for older, specific age groups will be end of June-early July. All Star Games will be in July, games are in Anchorage.

All players get their mandatory minimum innings played per division, but player rotation can be dependent on skill set.

Practices- Coaches preference on how often to practice. PLL encourages multiple practice sessions in addition to games, to work on teamwork and general skills.

Games- Multiple games per week. Potential Saturdays. Unless there are 48 players (4 teams) in this division, travel to Anchorage to play against other Dist. 1 teams will occur.
